How to read today's sky
The cosmic snapshot above shows where each planet sits in the zodiac right now, calculated from real astronomical positions. Whether you follow astrology closely or are simply curious about what is overhead, here is a plain-English guide to what each part means.
Planets in signs
Every planet is always passing through one of the twelve zodiac signs. The Sun sets the season and your familiar star sign; the Moon, which moves fastest, colours the mood of the day and shifts every two to three days. The slower a planet moves, the longer it stays in a sign — Saturn and Jupiter shape themes that last months or years, not days.
Retrogrades
When a planet is marked retrograde, it appears to move backward across the sky. This is an illusion created by the planets orbiting the Sun at different speeds — nothing is truly reversing. Astrologically, a retrograde is read as an invitation to slow down and revisit the themes that planet rules, rather than to push forward.
Aspects
Aspects are the angles planets make to one another. A conjunction blends two energies, a trine or sextile lets them flow together easily, and a square or opposition creates a productive friction. When the snapshot lists active aspects, it is describing how the planets are in conversation today.
Morning and evening stars
Some planets — most visibly Venus — are bright enough to see with the naked eye. When one rises before the Sun it is a morning star; when it lingers after sunset it is an evening star. It is one of the easiest ways to connect the chart above to the actual sky outside your window.

The zodiac signs at a glance
Each of the twelve signs is really a combination of two things: an element, which sets its temperament, and a modality, which sets how it handles change. Knowing both is a shortcut to reading any sign you see in the snapshot above, even one you don't know well.
By element
Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) — Driven by instinct and momentum — quick to act, quick to burn out if unchecked.
Earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) — Grounded in the practical and the physical — slower to move, harder to shake.
Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) — Oriented around ideas and connection — thinks before it feels, talks before it acts.
Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) — Led by emotion and intuition — absorbs the mood of a room before naming it.
By modality
Cardinal (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) — Start things. Each begins a season, and each brings the energy of a fresh initiative.
Fixed (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) — Sustain things. Each anchors the middle of a season, holding steady once something is underway.
Mutable (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) — Adapt things. Each closes a season, loosening what came before to make room for the next.
